Committed to help maintain, enrich and improve the status of the Singapore’s teaching profession, the Singapore Teachers’ Union (STU) together with the Center for American Education (CAE) is offering a STU – CAE Scholarship for the Master of Education in School Counseling.
The STU – CAE Scholarship for the Master of Education in School Counseling is a premier programme aimed at providing educators preferably School Counselors (FTSC/PTSC) the opportunity to develop to their full potential and be equipped with the latest techniques and theories from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Goals & Objectives for Master of Education in School Counseling
The 42-credit hour degree program seeks to equip current school counselors / teachers in Singapore with advanced knowledge and specialized skills for:
· Implementing a comprehensive model of school counseling which aims to ensure the academic, career and personal/social development of all students · Providing responsive services that deal with immediate concerns of students such as individual counseling, crisis counseling, grief counseling, family crisis · Implementing effective counseling strategies for youths with special needs and mental health issues such as eating disorders, autism, ADHD, anxiety disorder and severe behavioral and emotional issues · Applying a diverse repertoire of helping strategies and techniques such as individual and group counseling and classroom guidance in working with youth · Applying appropriate collaborative and counseling strategies in working with families and other school personnel · Developing and implementing prevention education programs such as conflict resolution and anti-bullying and values programs and providing leadership in creating a positive school climate · Generating outcome data in order to determine the effectiveness of their programs and strategies. |

Who is Eligible for the Scholarship?
1. The candidate must be a STU-member 2. Selection of scholarship recipient will be based on academic achievements and potential contribution to their school/students upon completion of the degree (For full details, please click here for “Terms and Conditions” ).
Deadline for the Scholarships applications for the Sept 2008 intake is Friday, 25 July 08. (Application fee to CAE valued at $107 will be waived for STU members.) |

How to Apply for the Scholarship?
To apply for the scholarship, please send in the completed STU – CAE Scholarship for the Master of Education in School Counseling application form together with the necessary copies of the transcripts and certifications (refer to attached “checklist”) to the Singapore Teachers’ Union (Address: 162 Tagore Avenue, Singapore 787752).
